How long do I have to download a Facebook Story?

Facebook Stories are ephemeral and automatically expire 24 hours after publication. Once a story disappears from Facebook's public feed, Meta revokes the signed CDN token, making it impossible to download. Be sure to save the story within that 24-hour window.

Can I download Facebook Stories that consist of a single photo?

Yes! FBDown detects whether the story is a video (.mp4) or a photo (.jpg). If the story is an image, our tool delivers the highest available uncompressed JPG download button.

Why does the story link say 'Post not found' or 'Private'?

If a story is set to 'Friends Only' or posted from a locked profile, Facebook restricts access to logged-in friends. FBDown's public story engine can only access public stories. For restricted content, you can use our Facebook Private Downloader workflow.

How do I save a downloaded Facebook Story to my iPhone Camera Roll?

In Safari, tap Download. Open the Safari Downloads menu, select the downloaded MP4 or JPG file, tap the Share icon at the bottom-left, and tap 'Save Video' or 'Save Image'. The media will immediately appear in your Apple Photos app.

How Facebook Stories Work and Why They Expire

Meta introduced Stories to emulate the spontaneous, short-lived sharing popularized across mobile social networks. Every Facebook Story published by personal profiles, public figures, and business pages is assigned a temporary 24-hour lifetime. Once the 24-hour timer elapses, Meta moves the story to the creator's private archive, rendering it inaccessible to the public.

Behind the scenes, each media file uploaded to a Facebook Story is hosted on Meta's Content Delivery Network (Akamai and EdgeScale CDN clusters). The URLs include signed authentication parameters like &oh= (hash token) and &oe= (epoch expiration timestamp). FBDown's Facebook Story Downloader reads these parameters in real time to fetch the raw asset before the timestamp expires.

True Anonymous Story Saving: Zero Tracking Guarantee

Privacy is the number one reason users choose FBDown over watching stories natively:

No Viewer Receipts: When you watch a story inside Facebook, the app sends a telemetry ping to Meta's analytics tracking server, adding your name, avatar, and timestamp to the creator's “Seen by” list.
Decoupled CDN Fetching: When you paste a story URL into FBDown, our engine queries the edge CDN server without passing any personal browser cookies or Facebook auth headers. The creator cannot see that their story was viewed or archived.
No Software or Permissions: Unlike invasive browser extensions or mobile APKs that request full access to your social media accounts, FBDown requires zero permissions.

Everything you need to know about Facebook Story Downloader.

No. When you view a story inside the Facebook app, Meta logs your user ID to the creator's viewer list. However, when you use FBDown, our server requests the public CDN media stream directly without transmitting your Facebook cookies or profile info. Your download remains completely anonymous.
